Board-Certified Perfusionist
Location: Audie L Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, San Antonio, TX
Type: Full-Time Contract (FTE)
Agency: Department of Veterans Affairs – STVHCS
Work Schedule:
Regular: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Position Summary:

This is a full-time equivalent (FTE) position that includes weekday service hours and on-call responsibilities to support cardiac and critical care procedures

Board-Certified Perfusionist

Position Summary:
The South Texas VA Health Care System is seeking a highly experienced Board-Certified Perfusionist to provide comprehensive perfusion services to our Veteran population. This is a full-time equivalent (FTE) position that includes weekday service hours and on-call responsibilities to support cardiac and critical care procedures
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and maintain the following VA-owned equipment:
- Heart-lung machine
- Intra-aortic balloon pump
- Centrifugal ventricular assist device (VAD)
- Autotransfusion pump (when applicable)
- Assist in procedures such as open-heart surgery, ECMO support, and left/right heart bypass
- Provide on-call services 24/7, including holidays (must be within 30 minutes of the facility)
- Document procedures and clinical notes accurately in the VA’s EHR system
- Participate in monthly and quarterly performance reports and quality assurance reviews
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Education Program, School of Perfusion Technology
- Board Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
- Minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience in cardiovascular perfusion
- At least 500 documented clinical perfusion cases.
- Demonstrated proficiency in ECMO, IABP, autotransfusion, and heart-lung bypass
- Unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. state or territory
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Must meet VA credentialing and privileging standards
