Board-Certified Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist (PhD)
Location: Baltimore VA Medical Center, 10 N. Greene Street, Baltimore, MD 21201
1099 basis
20 hours a week - The specific days have not yet been determined, but the schedule will fall Monday through Friday. There is a possibility that the VA may modify the required on-site days in the future. 

Position Summary
The Baltimore VA Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking an experienced Board-Certified Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist (CTMP) to lead and oversee radiation oncology physics operations within the Radiation Oncology Service. The Chief Physicist ensures the highest level of quality assurance, compliance, and patient safety consistent with ACR, ASTRO, and AAPM standards

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight of all physics and dosimetry operations
  • Develop and maintain the Quality Management Program (QMP) for radiation therapy equipment
  • Conduct acceptance testing and commissioning of linear accelerators and treatment planning systems
  • Perform and supervise quality assurance (QA) procedures for radiation therapy equipment and software
  • Ensure compliance with ACR or ASTRO APeX accreditation standards and VA directives
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists in treatment planning and delivery.
  • Maintain complete documentation in CPRS (VA electronic medical record)

Qualifications
  • Education: PhD in Medical Physics or related field
  • Certification: Board Certification in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) (required)

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years post-board experience, including 3 years of continuous work within the past 5 years

Proven experience with:
  • QA procedures (Sun Nuclear/SunCheck preferred)
  • ACR or ASTRO APeX accreditation
  • Varian Linear Accelerators (Edge or equivalent)
  • IGRT, including Cone Beam CT (TG-142 standards)
  • Eclipse/ARIA systems (2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, IMRT/VMAT per TG-53)
  • IMRT QA using MapCheck I/II (or equivalent)
  • Siemens SOMATOM go
  • Open Pro CT Simulator (or equivalent, TG-66)
  • Documented experience performing linear accelerator acceptance testing and commissioning

Additional Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to pass VA credentialing and security screening
  • Compliance with CEU maintenance and credentialing per VHA Directive 1100.20
  • Not listed on the HHS OIG Exclusion List
