The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) operates Federal Correctional Institution, Manchester (FCI Manchester), a medium-security federal prison for male offenders, with an adjacent minimum-security prison camp. FCI Manchester houses over one thousand inmates and is managed by FBOP under the U.S. Department of Justice. Their facility provides security, custody, and inmate services, including medical, dental, radiology, education, and rehabilitation programs.

Certified Dental Assistant

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:00 PM (35 hours/week max)

Position Summary
The Certified Dental Assistant provides comprehensive dental support services within the Health Services Department of a federal correctional institution. This role assists the Dental Officer in all clinical functions, maintains equipment and infection control, performs radiology tasks, and ensures accurate documentation

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and exam procedures
  • Prepare instruments, materials, medications, and treatment rooms
  • Provide chairside assistance and patient education
  • Perform dental prophylaxis, charting, screening exams, temporary fillings, rubber dams, impressions, packs, and liners
  • Conduct radiographs (digital and standard), ensure radiation safety
  • Maintain dental equipment, sterilize instruments, and manage infection control
  • Document care in electronic and paper medical records
  • Support emergency dental cases
  • Fabricate and repair prosthetics under supervision

Qualifications:
  • Completion of accredited Dental Assistant training, including radiology
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
  • Minimum 2 years of dental assisting experience
  • Preferred: bilingual, correctional healthcare experience
  • Must submit resume, certificates, and proof of qualifications

  • Free of infectious diseases
  • May require TB and communicable disease testing
  • Must pass a federal background check and comply with all institution security protocols
