Polysomnographic Technician
RieLes Group is seeking a part-time (2 nights a week) Polysomnographic Technician to support the McDonald Army Health Center located in Ft. Eustis, Virginia. This is an opportunity to provide care for our active military service members and their families in the Tidewater Community.
Position Description
The Sleep Study Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Pulmonary Provider. The Sleep Study Technician in this position shall perform services in accordance with the professional standards of McDonald Army Health Center. The employee shall have the following knowledge and abilities, but may not necessarily be limited to:
- Must be able to recognize abnormally functioning equipment and render initial repairs
- Must take steps to discontinue study when repairs cannot be made
- Must have practical knowledge of a wide range of technical methods, principles, and practices applicable to sleep study
- Technician must-have skill to independently plan difficult assignments
- Technician must have an advanced understanding of sleep disorders and skill to independently perform procedures involving very fine distinctions and fine-tune complex computerized precision instruments
- Must have an advanced understanding of physiology, especially in relation to cardiopulmonary function
- Must have an advanced understanding of electromyography (EMG) and its application to sleep study
- Must be able to provide a variety of detailed diagnostic tests monitoring of patients
- Must use tact in establishing and maintaining communication and have no objection or difficulty in viewing partially or fully disrobed patients
- Technician must be able to communicate effectively when explaining to family the testing and monitoring procedures to be performed
Qualifications
- Must be a licensed Polysomnographic Technician
- A minimum of one year experience performing similar duties
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Knowledgeable of a body of standardized patient care and skill sufficient to perform procedures
- Working knowledge of equipment and supply terminology
- Knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of patients
- Must be authorized to work in the United States of America
